May Japanese class JNL Newsletter

Dear Parents of Grade 3

Time passes fast. This academic year will be over soon!
I would like to further to complete the kokugo curriculum steadily.

Here is monthly Japanese class newsletter.
Please enjoy reading it.
                                                                                 Ms. Hayashi

After completion of making their story at the topic “Takatajima no bouken”, we enjoyed reading their story and appreciate each other.
Then the Grade 3 students classified words and learned the verb, the noun and the adjectivef at the topic of “Kotoba o bunruisuru”. Through this topic they built up their Japanese vocabulary.
Also they enjoyed reading poems on the same title “Yuki”.
Now, we are reading a story “Ari no gyouretsu”. They have reading homework for this story. Please  encouraging them to finish it.

This month, the Grade 3 students had a great time at the Kohoku public library as a fieldtrip. We learned the rules and manners at the library, how to use it. I hope it was a good chance to know “Reading is fun!”

Week 6!

Week 6! We are working on our new inquiry projects, exchanging letters with different countries, and learned about the skill of test taking!

Inquiry (Social Studies, Science): Through this inquiry, students learned about the finite resources we have. They are now making observations and research on ways to help to preserve these finite resources for the future of our planet. They experienced what it was like with no electricity, and spent some time creating their own inventions to conserve energy.

Language Arts: Students got back to poetry this week. We used more examples from our mentor text, Where the Sidewalk Ends to brainstorm ideas for our poetry. We also looked at how music uses the same elements as poetry for its lyrics!

Math: This week we did a review of the year in math. We did a variety of exercises and activities to review our math skills.

Next week: We will begin the going further stage of our inquiry projects, take our Cambridge examinations, and finish up our pen pal letters, and final poems!

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mr. Soong
